Sydney was born at 28 weeks and was 1 lb 4 oz at birth. She is a miracle baby. When her first birthday came around, she was still struggling with medical issues. Flying was not an option for us so we took a road trip to New Orleans. My goddaughter, Sanaia, and my mother, Donna, joined us as her guests. This birthday was a big deal because she was not supposed to live to be one year old due to some medical issues. I always wanted to have a daughter and take her to tea at the Ritz Carlton. So when planning a trip to New Orleans, I reserved a party table for the Easter Tea at the Ritz Carlton.
On the first day of our trip, we went to the Audubon Zoo. Because Sydney did not have a lot of experience outside, I brought along her large stroller because it provided more shade than an umbrella stroller. It also allowed her to lay flat and nap comfortably. When the heat became unbearable, we cooled down at the Cool Zoo which is a small water park inside of the zoo. When I have to be outside in the heat with Sydney for a long period of time, I always make sure that there is a place for us to get wet or sit in shade to cool down. There is nothing worst than a cranky baby in the heat. Another bonus of the large stroller, was the space underneath that allowed for drink and diaper bag storage.
The next day, we attended the Easter Tea at the Ritz. This is an experience that I recommend. The children are adorable in their dresses and suits. The Ritz provides activities like cookie decorating and coloring. There was even an Easter bunny! My sister, niece, and aunt were sweet enough to meet us for the tea. The Ritz even arranged for a violinist to play "Happy Birthday" for Sydney. This was a memorable first trip.
