6/7/2018 1 Comment Day 5 in Disney WorldDay 5 was short and sweet! We visited Epcot to spend our remaining snack credits. The Deluxe Dining Plan allows for so much food that you will probably not use the snack credits. We saved our snack credits and used them to buy souvenir food items. Epcot is a good place to use snack credits to try egg rolls, Cronuts, and candy apples. I will never forget being in Epcot this day. It was a Sunday and I heard a choir singing “War Cry.” I praised God for this wonderful experience with my mother and my child right in the middle of Epcot. Christmas at Disney World was a definite win!

6/7/2018 1 Comment Day 4 in Disney World On Day 4, Christmas was over but our party spirit was not! We had breakfast with the Disney Jr characters at Hollywood Studios. We then went to Disney Junior Live on Stage! Sydney really enjoyed this day because these were the characters that she watched on television every day. Hollywood Studios also has an amazing Beauty and the Beast reenactment that captures even the youngest audience member’s attention. A day at Hollywood Studios would not be fulfilled without a giant turkey leg!
After Hollywood Studios, we went to lunch at Sanaa in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Sanaa is an African/Indian restaurant in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The food is some of the best that I have had in all of my travels. Sydney is a picky eater and she was willing to try the colorful dishes. It is an enchanting experience because animals roam around outside of the restaurants large windows while guests eat. This is a must try when going to Disney World. We went back to the resort for our usual nap time. I am mentioning this on every post because I want parents to understand that Disney World does not have to be a one park only for 14 hours a day experience. It is ok to take breaks and naps. All of the parks provide a great experience. Disney World is certainly more than Magic Kingdom. We went to the Fort Wilderness Resort for a sleigh ride that night. It was a great experience. I was definitely not aware of the campgrounds at Disney World. The campers decorated their campsites and it was just as magical as the Disney decorations. It was very special to spend Christmastime on a one horse open sleigh. 6/7/2018 0 Comments Day 3 at Disney World Day 3 was Christmas Day!! We left pretty early because Disney reaches capacity quickly on Disney World. A great friend of ours made a Princess Tiana gown for Sydney. We were in full celebration mode! Our first stop was Crystal Palace for breakfast with Winnie the Pooh and Friends. I have always been a fan of Winnie the Pooh so I really enjoyed this. I maneuvered our Dining Plan to cover many of the character meals that we experienced. Sydney met Princess Tiana! Princess Tiana is very special to us because she is Disney’s first African American princess. We stayed in Magic Kingdom for the parade. The characters in the parade really made Sydney feel special by acknowledging her as “Little Tiana.” The Mad Hatter even left the parade route to shake her hand! Our next stop was something that I dreamed of since I was a child. We had lunch in Cinderella’s Castle. The lunch was exquisite. Most of the princesses were present. Sydney slept through it all! My mom and I enjoyed being princesses. It is something that I will have to do with her again. We headed back to the room because Magic Kingdom was extremely packed.
The Port Orleans resort is a great place to relax. There are pools, horse and carriage rides, and boat rides. We ate dinner there so that we could have a taste of Louisiana, which is our home, on Christmas. We were disappointed. This was the only unpleasant meal that we have had at Disney World. I will put a disclaimer here. If you are not from Louisiana, you will love the Louisiana food served here. I will also give Disney credit. They refunded our dining points for this meal because we did not enjoy it. Bad meal or not, this is still our favorite Christmas Day ever. 6/7/2018 0 Comments Day 2 at Disney World Day 2 was Christmas Eve. I enjoy Christmas Eve more than Christmas Day because the anticipation is so cool. We started our day at Chef Mickey’s. Chef Mickey’s is located in the Contemporary Resort. It is an awesome buffet of good food but the best part is that Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, and Pluto come to your table for pictures and a party! This meal is worth it because it allows you to avoid the long park lines to see the characters for pictures.
After Chef Mickey's we headed to the Animal Kingdom. The Animal Kingdom was probably Sydney's second favorite park because it included animals and Mickey Mouse! When people think of the Animal Kingdom, they often think of a large zoo. While there are a lot of awesome animals, there are also fun rides and great performances. We had fast passes for the Kilimanjaro Safari. It is important to get fast passes for this attraction because the line is LONG! This was easily one of the best safari rides we have been on. We also enjoyed the Lion King performance. This is another great use of the Fast Pass. Sydney was very engaged in the performance. The best thing about staying on property with a toddler is being able to head to your room for nap time. After nap time, we went to Epcot to have a wonderful Italian meal and experience the Candlelight Processional. The Candlelight Processional is a Disney Christmas tradition. I recommend booking the meal package so you won’t have to wait in line to possibly get a seat. We ended Christmas Eve with a trip to Hollywood Studios. This was the last year of the Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. It was breathtaking. 3/10/2018 0 Comments Day 1 Christmas at Disney World Day 1 at Disney World was awesome. Day 1 was on December 23 so Christmas was in full swing. Disney works hard to make sure that you have a relaxing time when staying at their resorts and when visiting their parks. On Day 1, we experienced Downtown Disney. We wanted to try the hot air balloon ride but it was too windy. It was great to enjoy the decorations and shopping that is available there. We ate lunch at Raintree Café. Raintree Café is a chain and the food was like any other family restaurant chain in America. The great thing about Raintree Café is the rainforest experience. Sydney enjoyed the realistic animals hanging from the ceilings and the noises they made. Our next stop was Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom at night is a great welcoming experience at any time of the year but at Christmas it is more magical. We were able to see Anna turn the castle into an ice castle. We spent time with Talking Mickey which was exciting even though he had laryngitis when we went. We ate at Tony’s Town Square restaurant which was a thrill for me because I am a Lady and the Tramp fan. I will never forget riding the tea cups with my mom and Sydney. It is my favorite ride at Disney World. The electric parade was a blast. Sydney was dressed like Minnie Mouse and that earned her a big kiss from Minnie during the parade. Whenever possible, let your children dress like their favorite characters. It is something that they can only get away with as children and it is so much fun. At Christmas, Santa visits Magic Kingdom and hot chocolate and cookies are plentiful. There is also snow falling which is pure magic in Florida. The lights and decorations are a display of art. We ended our day at park closing and we were excited for another day at the most magical place on Earth.
3/10/2018 0 Comments Christmas at Disney World Taking your child to Disney World has become an American tradition. Sydney and I went to Disney World for the first time when she was 20 months. A lot of people told us, “She will not remember that,” “It makes no sense to take a baby to Disney World,” and “There is nothing for a baby to do at Disney World.” I love Disney World and I rarely travel only for Sydney. I knew that she would enjoy herself and I would always have the memories of her enjoying herself at Disney World. Also, Disney World is a place that we would travel to often. With that being said, let me get to the nitty gritty of preparing for a trip to Disney World at Christmas with a baby that has medical issues.
I read a lot of blogs about traveling with your child to Disney World at Christmas time so I knew that I had to prepare early. Christmas is the busiest time at Disney World. In February, I booked our room at the Port Orleans Riverside resort. I chose Port Orleans because we are from South Louisiana and I wanted something to remind us of home at Christmas. I also wanted to stay in the coveted Princess Tiana room. I made an itinerary because I have learned that when traveling with kids having a plan is easier than just winging it. We are able to get the most out of a lot of our travels because we do not sit around wondering what to do. I am a foodie so I chose the Deluxe Dining Plan. It was also the most economical choice for the experiences that I wanted to have. Points from the Deluxe Dining Plan can be maneuvered to cover character meals. We experienced a character breakfast every morning, lunch at Cinderella’s castle, and we still ate wonderful meals. I can write an entire post about the fine dining at Disney World. It is not all hot dogs and burgers. Back to my expert planning skills. 180 days before our check in date, I woke up at 5am and logged into Disney Dining Reservations to book our reservations. You may think that I am crazy to do this but I got the last reservation for three at Cinderella’s castle for that day. I knew it was the last one because I called into Disney Dining right after to change the time and was told there were no more spots. Cinderella’s castle and Be Our Guest are hard reservations to obtain but at Christmas time every reservation is hard to obtain. I relaxed after the dining reservations were made. The next step was Fast Passes. 3 months before we were scheduled to go I booked our Fast Passes for the parades, safari ride at Animal Kingdom, and the Lion King. Everything else was based on the type of experiences Sydney would enjoy. She is a Disney Junior fanatic so Hollywood Studios was a must for us. Another reservation that I made ahead of time was the Candlelight Processional. It is booked with a meal and is a must do at Disney World for Christmas. Our entire family enjoyed it. Sydney was not yet ready to fly because of her medical issues so I knew that we would have to rent a car and drive the 13 hours. My mother came along with us to help with the drive and because grandmothers are awesome. I rented a large SUV for Sydney’s medical equipment such as her walker, stroller, and just in case equipment like nebulizer, humidifiers, etc. Our trip was for 5 days and 4 nights at Disney World plus an additional night coming and going to break up the drive. I also packed entertainment for Sydney for downtime in the room and when we travel. On this trip, I learned that I packed too much. My new motto for traveling with Sydney is that if urgent care can supply it, we do not need to bring it. Also, one or two toys will do on car rides and extended iPad time is ok for long trips. So my advice on preparing for Disney World at Christmas time is to bring what you need and prepare far in advance. |
